Your backyard should be an oasis. Your escape from everyday stresses. A place to gather with family and friends. For over 30 years, we have been helping homeowners in the Rockland County and Bergen County area transform their yards into inviting outdoor living spaces through our landscape and hardscape design and installation services. This project in Ridgewood, New Jersey is just one example of our work.
The homeowners wanted to renovate the look and function of their backyard. We created a relaxing space they can enjoy throughout the seasons. The renovated yard is the perfect place to unwind or entertain. You can lounge on the new patio under the shade from the pergola, cook for your guests on a beautiful built-in BBQ, or curl up on chilly nights in front of fire – all while you are surrounded by lush landscaping.
The Prep
The transformation started with some demo. We removed the existing patio and hauled away the debris. Then, we excavated and backfilled the yard to prep for the new patio installation. This process included removing some existing plants, which we would re-use in the new landscape design. We also repaired the existing irrigation system where needed, as well as installed new zones for better maintenance.
The Hardscape
The “hard” elements are focal points in this backyard oasis. In this particular project, the homeowners already had plans for the hardscape features, which we executed.
Retaining Wall
The property is not completely flat. To address the elevation, and provide for easy access from the home, the patio is elevated. This necessitated a small retaining wall separating the patio from the rest of the yard. We built a curved retaining wall out of pavers with planting area, which blends into stone steps from the patio to the grass. There is also a step-down to the driveway. To transition the patio and steps to the driveway, we also installed stone curbing that complements the stone used for the patio.
Patio
The expansive patio area is comprised of Cambridge Ledgestone XL Series pavers and a complementing border. The curved shape adds an element of interest to the overall design and enhances the landscape features.
Fireplace
The fireplace is definitely the focal point of the outdoor space. Its size and scale take center stage and offer an inviting escape on chilly summer evenings or the perfect gathering spot on a brisk autumn afternoon.
Built-In BBQ
Cooking outdoors is sweeter with the built-in grill and fridge. The stone exterior adds texture and color to the yard’s design.
The Softscape
All of this beautiful stonework is softened with the landscape. We incorporated some of the existing plantings in the new landscape design, as well as installed a variety of additional plantings to enhance the color and seasonal interest of the space. We also installed sod for a lush, green foundation for the landscape design.
Lighting
The overall renovation was complete with landscape lighting.
